Denominations |
The society of Friends, also called Quakers, began when George Fox (AD 1624-1691) heard a voice telling him to seek a personal direct relationship with Christ and avoid doctrinal divisions. The Friends were against Slavery, paying taxes that go toward state sponsored Churches, and they refused to go to state churches. Today they are heavily involved in relief efforts around the world.
Beliefs.
Most do not take oaths, go to war, use tobacco,
or use alcohol. They believe grace, the power to do good and avoid evil, is universal among
all people. They seek perfection not holiness.
