Seder Olam |
Translations |
The Seder Oalm is a work dated about 160 AD. It was first printed in 1514. It is a attempt to put together a chronology of ancient history form various ancient history works, the author is not Christian but does a good job of getting basic stories and dates matching the bible (Genesis), Jasher, Josephus, and other ancient history works. The writing style follows that of the Sadducees. Similar to the Ethiopic Book of Jubilees, although this is more coherent.
The author shows that Bible and ancient rabbinical tradition teach the 70 weeks prophecy of Daniel refers to the time between the Artaxerxes decree and the death of the Messiah and contrasts Rabbi Yose's teaching that it is between the destructions of the 1st and 2nd temples and not to Jesus the Messiah. If one follows Yose's theory it creates a missing 169 years. (28), Yose is confused on how many kings of Persia there were. (28 & 30) The Seder teaches ancient tradition of an eternal Hell and contrasts that with another rabi who began to teach the false doctrine of Annihilationism (2) The Seder mentions the seven Noahide laws (5) and that the battle of Gog and Magog will be after the King Messiah comes (17).
